The course explained:
FLOW: "...a deep and uniquely human motivation to excel, exceed, and triumph over limitation"....
The Angling4Success outdoor experiential learning programme expands on Energize’s 10 years delivery of quality youth work and educational initiatives.
It is designed to take young people out of the pressures of the classroom (temporarily or as a parallel alternative) to keep them in education and provides schools with a curriculum alternative for certain young people, aged 10 to 19, who might achieve their potential in an outdoor setting.
Angling4Success taps into the young people’s learning potential, using a mentoring approach and outdoor learning situations to teach them, among others, planning, problem solving, teamwork, learning new skills and enables them to achieve results through tenacity and patience. Success is rewarded through accreditation and measurable outcomes.
The underpinning principle of the course is to nurture: proactive and contributing members of society.

WHY DOES THE COURSE WORK?
We are in the early stages of working this out... Initial response "it just does!"

Early gambit: Please refer to the work of
Mihály Csíkszentmihályi:
Flow is the mental state of operation in which the person is fully immersed in what he or she is doing by a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and success in the process of the activity.
Csíkszentmihályi identifies the following as accompanying an experience of flow:
- Clear goals (expectations and rules are discernible and goals are attainable and align appropriately with one's skill set and abilities).
- Concentrating and focusing, a high degree of concentration on a limited field of attention (a person engaged in the activity will have the opportunity to focus and to delve deeply into it).
- A loss of the feeling of self consciousness, the merging of action and awareness.
- Distorted sense of time, one's subjective experience of time is altered.
- Direct and immediate feedback (successes and failures in the course of the activity are apparent, so that behavior can be adjusted as needed).
- Balance between ability level and challenge (the activity is neither too easy nor too difficult).
- A sense of personal control over the situation or activity.
- The activity is intrinsically rewarding, so there is an effortlessness of action.
- People become absorbed in their activity, and focus of awareness is narrowed down to the activity itself, action awareness merging.
We have observed participants in our courses experience many of these characteristics almost from day one of the course.
